5th GSICS / CEOS WGCV Lunar Calibration Workshop

The 5th Joint GSICS / CEOS WGCV Lunar Calibration Workshop will be organised at EUMETSAT headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. Registration is now open.

The event will take place from 16–20 November 2026. The workshop will be hybrid to allow remote participation. Please register for the event if you plan to attend either in person or remotely, as communications about the event will go through the registrations as we get closer to the date.
We also ask participants to submit a short abstract if they plan to present their work so that the agenda can be arranged.
This fifth edition will focus on:
- Measurements and Moon observations, with the goal of achieving SI traceability,
- Lunar calibration systems and model development,
- Instrument monitoring using lunar calibration, including discussions on best practices for estimating the lunar irradiance from Moon acquisitions,
- Lunar observations and calibration in the thermal infrared and microwave regions,
- Inter-calibration using the Moon as a common reference,
- Alternative applications of lunar observations, including post-launch geometric and MTF characterization.
In addition, the workshop expects to provide a second assessment of various lunar irradiance models operated on a common dataset via an inter-comparison exercise, using the GSICS Lunar Spectral Irradiance Calibration System (LSICS) as a framework. It also intends to provide more insight into the use of lunar observations in satellite mission Cal/Val plans and for sensor monitoring activities, including for future multi-satellite Earth observing systems and sensors in the infrared and microwave domains.
