Niels refered to 2023 ITSC Poster by David Duncan comparing Top Hat and real SRFs: https://itwg.ssec.wisc.edu/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/2p.09.duncan_itsc22.pdf. ECMWF previously found no (positive) impact of using real SRFs instead of Top Hat functions. Niels suggest that the bias correction scheme may be compensating for the errors.
